HOW TO HANDLE A CREMATION SERVICE WITHOUT THE

ASSISTANCE OF A FUNERAL HOME

We sincerely believe that your family will experience less stress, anxiety,

and confusion by utilizing the services of a local funeral home. Funeral

Professionals are experienced and equipped to coordinate the details of

laying a loved one's cremated remains to rest.

If you choose to handle everything yourself, here are some helpful tips:

You will need to call us to schedule the time for the graveside service. We do not schedule any services more than 30 days in advance. We realize that families sometimes have to make travel plans, however, we encourage you to go ahead and coordinate with your family to make your travel plans. If you call two to four weeks before the date and time you would prefer, it is highly unlikely that we would not be able to accommodate your family on the date and at the exact time you desire.

You will need to consider a few things:

1. Will your family be bringing the ashes to the service, or would you prefer to leave them with us and have us bring the ashes of your loved one to the service?

2. What type of container will contain the ashes? We require all cremated remains that are buried in the ground to be enclosed in a metal or stone urn. If the ashes are in any other type of container, that container will need to be placed inside of a urn vault, which can be purchased either through us or your funeral home of choice for your convenience.

3. The Memorial Park staff is well equipped to serve your family, but what takes place at the graveside is entirely up to you. You will want to consider and make arrangements for who is going to speak as well as what the order of the service will be. You essentially take on the role of funeral director. This is one reason we highly recommend that you utilize the services of a local funeral home.

4. You'll want to coordinate where all the friends and relatives will meet. For example, will you all meet at the graveside or at another location and then travel here together?

5. At least one staff member will remain with your loved one's ashes while they are placed. You can also choose to stay for this portion, however most families prefer to let the graveside service be their last memory with their loved one rather than placing them in their place of final rest.
